It is hard describe them accurately. Technically they are molecule sized machines that have gained sentience. They were originally created to alter people to change them into easily controlled super slaves. But they gained sentience and realized how wrong that plan was. Since then they have spread and settled in as a separate entity. They evolved beyond being just machines and straddle the border between digital and real world. They can (and do) move thru the digital (cyber) world easily.
Personality: They are not one mind so much as a hive or group mind as there are several distinct personalities present. They are best described as a mix of Nicola Tesla, Albert Einstein, John Wayne, Indiana Jones, Benny Hill and the 3 Stooges! They are interested in everything and anything. They cannot help themselves but try and improve things. Shown an object they will study it and come up with several dozen ways to improve it! From each person they improve they learn something. F
SuperFox - A Visit to the Islands part 5 The aircraft hurtling towards Hart island skimmed across the surface of the water. It was so close that the massive blades of its turboprop engines barely missed the waves that had been whipped up by the turbulence.SuperFox - A Visit to the Islands part 5 by ~CaptFox
The MV22 Osprey was a good aircraft with a troubled past. A long, difficult development had seen many accidents and several times the project had almost been canceled. But still like a troubled child that becomes a responsible adult the Osprey had matured into a fine system. The aircraft was more complex than a simple C130 Hercules or a UH60 Blackhawk but it did have its advantages. The special forces loved them as it gave them the long range of a plane but with the vertical landing of a helicopter. It meant that parachute drops were no longer needed in many cases. Parachute drops were always messy and dangerous even under the best of circumstances. It also meant that people who parachuted in could be pulled out fast if things went bad.
Inside the plane
SuperFox - A Visit to the Islands part 6 Miller felt the aircraft shift and the sound of the engines grow louder. "We're headed in!" He sat back in the seat and tried to relax as his mind went over everything that he had heard. The officer turned and looked behind him. There, carefully strapped to the deck was a plastic cargo box. In it was all the equipment they'd need for investigating and stopping this outbreak.SuperFox - A Visit to the Islands part 6 by ~CaptFox
The captain could feel the plane moving at full speed and the fuselage rocked from side to side as the osprey dodged and twisted to make it a harder target to hit. After what seemed only a few seconds the pitch of the engines changed and the plane touched down. The ramp at the back dropped open and the captain caught sight of a sandy beach and the blue ocean beyond.
There was a mad scramble as the team unbuckled and raced down the ramp as best they could in their biosuits. Miller removed the strap holding down the cargo box. Then he leaned against it and the box moved down the ramp with surpris
SuperFox - A Visit to the Islands part 7 Ahead of them was building 11H, the largest building on small Hart island. It was a three story, wood frame building that was roughly square in shape. Flanking the steps that led up to the main doors were a pair of tall pines trees. The stairs themselves were of brick and led up to doors that had been smashed. Only small bits of wood dangled from the hinges. The splintered remains of the rest lay scattered down the steps.SuperFox - A Visit to the Islands part 7 by ~CaptFox
“From how the remains of the door are on the outside,” Misha commented. “Something broke down those doors while trying to get out.”
“We’ll give the building a good search then move to the transit station,” Misha ordered.
“There are two entrances to the station. One in the basement of the building but there is a separate door and stairs leading down to it on the north side.”
“What’s in the building?” Misha asked the sabertooth.
“Mostly empty but the l
Dear Friends: The People of City of HeroesPart three of three for my retrospect on City of Heroes ends off as a shout-out journal to a few people that helped make my MMO experience enjoyable. A lot of the selections on here will be a little personal and by no means will this be absolutely everyone I've been able to know: it's only a sampling. Don't take it personally ifDear Friends: The People of City of Heroes by ~Robenix
Of course, I have to start with the game staff at Cryptic and Paragon for making the game possible to begin with. This includes all the red-names: the developers behind what made the game tick, and the community/forum guys that were always there and going the extra mile to keep things fun. I can't name everybody! *nudges a certain *DNA-1 because he has a dA*
Now, to the list.
I don't think any list would be complete with this guy left out. As far as CoH goes, the guy lived up to his namesake: something a lot more than just a random in-joke. I only had the chance to in
Personal Best: Seven Favorite CoH CharactersOK, so this retrospective I was only planning to be a one-shot deal is turning into a three parter. This is part two of the set, where I'll be looking at a handful of the OCs from City of Heroes that let me to become the creator/RPer I am today.Personal Best: Seven Favorite CoH Characters by ~Robenix
My very first character in CoH was this one on Triumph server. At the time, I never even knew that I would actually be getting in on the roleplaying scene. Despite this, I went ahead and crafted a backstory involving a cop injured on duty who decides to get a power suit made to help him walk again.
I count this cloud-like mutant as the first character I created with the direct purpose of roleplaying in mind, and a chance encounter with the then-leader of the New Age Mutants, Gravity Blast, got me an opportunity to enter the SG. It always brought a smile on my face to change costumes from human to vapor, thanks to the ability to alter body types in the tailor (*poof*). The trend
Where are they now?As those in the know would know, City of Heroes shut down for the last time at midnight, 1 December 2012. To go on about how disappointing of an event it was when it's been gone over to death is pretty pointless-- especially a year later-- but if there's one thing I will admit, it was the end (as well as the beginning) of a creative era for me.Where are they now? by ~Robenix
In reality, not much is all that different as it was before I knew I wouldn't be playing CoH. I've always had the ideas for characters I wanted to create, and in the back of my mind, I know there's still some things I want to do with the OCs I kept up with for months and years of roleplaying. After the shutdown hit, I made a hard and fast rule that things in Paragon City would be just fine without me at the helm of my mains, and I was starting from scratch in Champions Online: new game, new world, new adventure.
I never felt, in any way, th
